Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 19, 1970 (but years later he decided to change
his nationality into mexican). Son of the spanish singer Luis Gallego Sánchez (Luis Rey) and the italian actress Marcela Basteri,
he's the biggest brother of Alejandro and Sergio Gallego Basteri.
He started his career as a child (when he was 12), by recording his albums "1+1=2 Enamorados", "Directo al Corazón" and
"Decídete". When his success was getting stronger, he recorded the song "Me Gustas Tal Como Eres" (on his album "Palabra de
Honor") with the american singer Sheena Easton, song that gave him his first Grammy. And on the same year (1985), he won the
second place on the San Remo Festival (Italy) with the song "Noi Ragazzi Di Oggi" and gets to be known on that part of Europe.
He acted in two movies: "Ya Nunca Más" and "Fiebre de Amor" (with the also popular mexican singer Lucero), and he recorded
the soundtracks of them.
A little bit later, on 1987, he recorded "Soy Como Quiero Ser", album wich gave him 8 gold discs and 5 of platinium,
and the video of the single "Cuando Calienta el Sol" turned him into the new great latin sex-symbol. On 1988 he recorded "Busca
una Mujer", album from wich he colocated 7 singles on the firsts places for more than a year.
On 1990 Luis Miguel it's the first latinamerican artist that received the World Music Award, and on June of the same
year he received 10 gold discs for his elevated sales. On that same month, his album "20 Años" started his promotion, selling
over 600,000 copies on a week. "Romance" was born on November 1991, with wich he saled almost 8 million copies over the world.
Then, on 1993 "Aries" gave him his second Grammy for Best Latin Album, and the award for the most popular artist on the Viña
del Mar Festival.
On 1994 he produced "Segundo Romance" and presented 16 consecutives concerts in the National Auditorium of Mexico City
(where he reunited more than 160,000 people). He realized more than 80 concerts for a total of more than 40 cities over the
world.
He started 1995 by receiving his third Grammy for his second bolero's album, and again the World Music Award for being
the best latin artist of the year. On October of that same year he started the promotion for his album "El Concierto", selling
millions of copies over the world.
One of his greats achievements of his successful career was to record a duet with Frank Sinatra the song "Come Fly With
Me" for his album "Duets II". On his production "Nada Es Igual" of 1996, wich contains the single "Sueña" (soundtrack from
the Disney's movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"), he showed the talent he has as a producer.
On 1997 he produced "Romances", album that completes a bolero trilogy and with wich he started his longest and more successful
tour of his career. "Romances" debuted on the 14th place on the Billboard, making a new record in the history for the spanish
music. This album had sales for more than 4.5 million copies.
Luis Miguel completed on 1999 "Amarte es un Placer", with wich he started a successful world tour, on wich he recorded
his album "Vivo" (2000), wich included the songs "Y" and "La Bikina".
On 2001 he recorded "Mis Romances", a new bolero's album for his collection. This album won for him a gold disc in Chile
and a platinuim one in Mexico, on the first day on stores (and naturally he got again on the first places of popularity).
On October 2002, went to stores his album "Mis Boleros Favoritos". Album that was a complete summary of his four bolero's
albums, but including a new single (for sentimental reasons dedicated to his mother): "Hasta Que Vuelvas", and a DVD with
videos of some of his songs like "Delirio", "Por Debajo de la Mesa" and "No Sé Tú" (song that years before was on the
soundtrack for the movie "Speechless" with Geena Davis and Michael Keaton, on 1995).
There Can be no Doubt that his succeess over his concerts, his albums, and the like he has on the people, consolidate
him as the most important figure of pop music on the latin world. With 7 Grammys on his house, hundreds of gold and platinium
discs, a star on the famous Hall of Fame and more than 50 million copies sold over the world, Luis Miguel is the sun that
illuminates the world.....
